Border killings along the Bangladesh-India border continue to be a major issue hindering bilateral relations. Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain recently emphasized that these incidents generate negative sentiments among the public and pose significant
obstacles to strengthening ties between the two nations. He mentioned that despite the so-called "golden chapter" of relations during the Awami League's tenure, border killings have persisted and remain unacceptable. He reiterated that Bangladesh seeks fair, two-sided relations with India, not one-sided ones, and stressed that people-to-people relations are crucial for fostering stronger ties.
The comments followed the killing of a 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl, Shwarna Das, by India's Border Security Force (BSF) on September 1, 2024, and another incident involving a teenage boy shot at the border soon after. The Bangladesh government has formally protested and called on India to investigate such incidents and ensure accountability
